“When we rest as awareness, practice mindfulness, or engage in meditation, we are allowing suffering produced within our own body from buried emotions to surface.
In what can be called "first dimension practices," if we do not prompt anything up in the somatic body or explore deeper emotional layers, we are simply being with what is—often those sensations and thoughts that feel safer than what we have buried.
This inherent bypass leads practitioners to miss the deeper emotional work required for true recovery.
At some point on their spiritual path, practitioners must become aware of what lies below the detectable level of awareness; otherwise, suffering will continue to arise in various forms.”
