What is the hidden culprit responsible for our continued pain, seeking, and suffering?

Emotional Repression

Emotional repression is the unconscious blocking of essential emotions, such as anger, sadness, and fear.

It’s not just the tough emotions: The traits of Joy, love, creativity, sexuality, masculinity, and femininity can also become repressed as a consequence.

Science has demonstrated that unexpressed emotions from childhood and trauma get stored inside the body and transmute into the root cause of psychological suffering and physical health issues, including anxiety, depression, addiction, and chronic pain.

The body keeps the score.

We typically think of our thoughts as products of our minds. But in reality, our thoughts are produced from the body-mind connection. The body produces thoughts as invitations to feel emotions. The thought appears in the mind as something like “I’m not good enough,” but we miss the queue to feel inside the body’s repressed anger, sadness, and fear by instead believing the thought, trying to ignore it, or trying to “witness” it.

These invitations to feel emotions have been stuffed into the body for so long that we mistake our thoughts for just thoughts, and the repressed emotions manifest into psychological and physical health problems to get your attention.

What is somatic self-inquiry?

Somatic self-inquiry (somatic self-therapy, somatic inquiry, etc.) is similar to a meditation where, rather than sitting passively, you actively engage with yourself by asking intentional questions. The answers from your body and mind guide you through your thoughts, feelings, and sensations. Kiloby Inquiries are the most advanced techniques for somatic self-inquiry, specifically designed to uncover and release repressed emotions.

A consistent inquiry practice is more powerful than therapy because it empowers you to work through your emotional landscape independently, without relying on anyone else. It also transcends meditation by actively uncovering deeper feelings and beliefs rather than merely sitting with surface thoughts and emotions that may perpetuate suffering.

What is emotional repression?

Emotional repression is unconscious conditioning that prevents us from feeling and expressing essential emotions. It is a profoundly intelligent and innocent survival mechanism we adopt as children to stay connected to our primary caregivers and survive situations that feel overwhelming. However, left unchecked and unconscious, this repression mechanism gets wrapped up in our identity, driving our suffering until we bring it into our awareness.

An ever-increasing pile of research is providing evidence that emotions repressed from childhood and traumatic life experiences get stored inside the body, becoming the root cause of psychological and physical health issues, including anxiety, depression, addiction, and chronic pain. We have also found emotional repression to be the root of more subtle, hidden issues, like spiritual seeking, self-sabotage, dysfunctional relationship patterns, and people-pleasing.

What is inquiry/self-inquiry?

Inquiry is the process of guiding yourself through thoughts, bodily sensations, contractions and emotions and asking questions that provoke and elicit unconscious conditioning up into conscious awareness. Self-inquiry, a common practice in Buddhism and other spiritual traditions, aims to achieve lasting liberation of the self.

The Kiloby Inquiries differentiate themselves from any other practice, method, or inquiry technique in that they actively unearth the root cause of suffering and what keeps people seeking to end suffering in the first place: emotional repression. Unlike therapy, skillful use of these inquiry tools empowers you to “read” your body and explore and dissolve emotional repression without forming or maintaining any dependency on others.

The Origins of K.I.

Despite our disciplined meditation and mindfulness practices, spiritual pursuits, attempts at abstinence and psychotherapist degrees, the suffering we experienced in our lives simply wouldn’t fall away, and we had no idea what was causing it. Despite spiritual paths and other personal development pursuits, we still suffered from depression, anxiety, chronic pain, relationship issues, and many more suffering states. Each person’s suffering manifests in a painfully unique way; and yet, our core repression programming shows striking similarities across the board.

Eventually, during a joint-self-inquiry session in a hot tub of all places, totally regular people professional experts Scott Kiloby and Dan McLintock accidentally discovered the very first inquiry technique for accessing the root cause of suffering and began to apply it to many of the problems they’d lived with their entire lives; chronic pain, addiction, depression, and anxiety.

From the depths and exploration of the mechanics of our own suffering, we learned that the myriad ways we suffer are merely surface-level symptoms, hiding a deeper, simpler root cause. From Scott and Dan’s initial discovery until now, we have uncovered, developed and evolved a transformative and groundbreaking process for resolving this core issue of repression; Kiloby Inquiries, or simply K.I. —for emotional repression, self-repression, and much more.

K.I.

K.I. is a cutting-edge self-inquiry process that unveils the root of suffering: repressed emotions and energies stored in our bodies.

K.I. helps draw out our unconscious survival mechanisms by bringing awareness to the contractions of frozen fear held in the body that conceal repressed emotions. Through skillful inquiry, tuning into our body with deep honesty, and re-establishing the mind-body connection, we make the unconscious conscious and progressively end the safety-seeking, love-seeking state of suffering we've depended on since childhood.

K.I. addresses an expansive range of issues, from chronic pain, depression, and addiction to anxiety, self-sabotage, dysfunctional relationship dynamics, mental health disorders, and disease. We have not seen a single life issue or suffering state K.I. can’t be applied to as it provides a language to communicate with the subconscious.

Yes, this is a bold statement.

And it's one we wouldn’t make without having experienced it ourselves and witnessed countless others find depths of freedom they never even knew was possible.

As Thomas, a KI practitioner, recently shared: “I feel like I have a new body. Contractions in my body have dissolved, and I can work through a trigger very quickly and easily now. I understand myself on a level that I never thought was possible. I have healed everything from migraines to back pain and everything in between with KI.”

Backed by Science

We now understand that 95-99% of our actions, behaviors, and decisions—along with the resulting suffering—are driven by deeply entrenched unconscious programming in the body and conditioning in the mind. Kiloby Inquiries offer an innovative approach, language, and toolkit to comprehend, communicate with, and 'deprogram' this hidden influence.

Not Just Another Technique

  • K.I. doesn’t stop at allowing painful emotions and thoughts that rise to the surface like meditation, mindfulness practices and spirituality. (although this is where we started)

  • K.I. doesn’t stop at processing shadows, identities, and deficiency stories like psychotherapy and shadow work. (Although we’ve had great success with that, until we didn’t)

  • K.I. doesn’t stop at emotional release and body-mind practices like yoga and mindfulness. (Although both can be really helpful)

  • K.I. doesn’t offer nervous system regulation techniques that provide only temporary relief, such as vagus nerve techniques or cold plunges. (Although we appreciate both.)

Kiloby Inquiries go to the heart of suffering: emotional repression.

By dismantling our survival programming and accessing and expressing the emotions we've buried within the contractions in our body, we naturally and progressively end our suffering and equip our nervous system with the tools it needs to self-regulate autonomously once more. The need for nervous system regulation naturally loosens, along with any other need for spiritual or self-improvement seeking.

Kiloby Inquiries start where all other modalities end, and freedom begins.
