Along the spiritual search, the question arises, “What is this Source of life?” Thought cannot answer the question. All thought arises from and falls back into that source. Form apparently arises from and falls back into formlessness. Sound arises from and falls back into silence. Disturbances arises and fall back into stillness. Buildings are built and deteriorate back into nothingness.

The source is the unknown. Thought is the realm of the known. The known cannot know the unknown. The spiritual search can continue for years simply because the seeker keeps trying to know the source (i.e., unknown, emptiness, spirit, formlessness, God) through its manifestations (i.e., the known, thoughts, spiritual searches, religions, beliefs). One could say, the spiritual search arises from and falls back into spirit.

Enlightenment happens when you realize that the source of life is the very presence that you are right now. It is what is looking. In this moment, there is an unchanging, unmoving, formless, timeless awareness within your body and mind. From that awareness, thoughts arise. Time arises. Sound arises. Emotions arise. Buildings arise. Searches arise. Beliefs arise. Religions arise. Teachings arise.

The question, “What is the source,” is ignorance. It arises from looking for the source only through its manifestations, looking for the truth only through thought, searches, religions, belief systems, and teachings. Words can only point back to the source. Ignorance arises from not realizing that you are not separate from the source. You are life.

When the “me” story is seen to be just another manifestation, no different than a cloud or a coke can, the temporary nature of it is realized. Attachment to that story naturally dies when the source from which it comes is realized to be your true nature. That realization is only available now because this moment is all there is. Yesterday and tomorrow are just presently arising thoughts—more manifestations.

In a way that is impossible to express but that is directly accessible as the very life that is in this moment, once this source is realized, it is also realized that the manifestations are none other than the source. The duality betweeen awareness and thought, between silence and sound, between formlessness and form, between nothing and something is realized to be just part of the dream. There is only 'This' appearing in many forms.
